DIY Project - Kitchen Cupboards Wall Art

Do you have some old cupboard doors lying around?

And you’re not sure what to do with them?  Well, one idea could be to take your kitchen cupboards and turn them into wall art.

If this idea intrigues you then please feel free to read ahead.

Supplies Needed:

  • Sand block
  • Kitchen Cupboard
  • Dry Dex Spackling and Putty Knife
  • Chalk Paint (Folk Art) Plaid – Colors Rick Black, Parisian Grey, White https://plaidonline.com/brands/folkart/home-decor-chalk
  • Ribbon, twine
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Felt trees
  • Painters Tape
  • Paint brushes
  • Sticker

STEPS:

Altogether the first step you are going to want to do is remove any hardware from the door.  Sand it and then fill in any holes with spackling and a putty knife.

STEP 2:

Your second step will be to put painter’s tape around the inside of the front of your door. This will protect the center part of the door from getting paint on it.   Paint the back of your kitchen door, along with the raised edge and the sides.

STEP 3:

Thirdly, take off the painter’s tape to work on the center portion of the kitchen door.  Which will be the focal point of your piece of wall art.

To protect the painted edge of the door put painter’s tape around the outer edge of the central area.

You can create a layered look by taking the  Parisian Grey, White chalk paint, and water, and blending the two colors in the middle section of the door.  Once you have layered the paint and are satisfied with the look then use a clear sealer on the entire piece to seal the chalk paint.

Therefore, after you have given the clear sealer time to dry it’s time to take out your glue gun and finish off your gorgeous hand-crafted piece of artwork.

Furthermore, I found these felt trees at the Dollarama here in Canada.  Hot glue the tree to the left side of the piece of wood take the sticker set place it to the right of the felt tree and glue the ribbon underneath the felt tree and the sticker set from edge to edge.

Here is a photo of the finished product.

Lastly, the inspiration for this project came from the wording of the stickers.

Our family is like the branches of a tree.

We may grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.
