PAJAR CANADA

Pajar Canada is a brand that is celebrating 60 years and five generations of providing warmth and protection from the elements.  The brand was founded by Paul Golbert in 1963  by using the first letters of his family’s first names Paul, Jacques, and Rachel.

Furthermore, another great feature of this line is some of their boots come with a built-in ice gripper.  That is built right into the sole of the boot.  This way all you have to do is flip the gripper when you need it.  As well this feature includes patent technology to help prevent slips and falls in the winter.

So when it comes to women’s winter boots you really want to know what functions you are going to need to get out of your boots.  After all, you may want them to be fashionable but also look at the height, weight, and warmth of the boot.  It’s one thing to be walking down the street downtown for a small amount of time.  Comparable to hiking and cross-country skiing in rural areas.

As well do you want casual winter boots or is having a mix of style and function important to you?

Here is a great article by Switchback Travel that outlines twenty styles of boots.  Additionally giving women’s winter boot-buying advice on fourteen categories.  Such as winter boot categories, waterproofing, boot outsoles, grip, weight, and insulation type.

POPPY BARLEY

Poppy Barley is a local company that is located in Edmonton, Alberta.  I love their philosophy that they design and craft products for maximum wear so you can buy less and buy better!  Therefore Poppy Barley is a triple B corporation that has a triple bottom line of purpose, people, and profit.   This is embedded into the laws of the corporation.   Meaning they equally consider the impact of the employee, production partners, customers, community, and the environment when making decisions.

Their winter collection not only includes footwear but leather gloves and scarves.  So you can stay warm in the chicest way with stylist cold weather essentials.

Check out their website for their winter line below as well as a Youtube video giving some background on the company.

MANITOBAH MUKLUKS

Manitoba Mukluks was founded in 1997 by a young Metis entrepreneur by the name of Sean McCormick.  This is a local Manitoba company that went global in 2008.  At any rate in case your wondering a Mukluk is a soft boot made from the hide of an animal.  The word Mukluk originated from the Yupik word maklak.  Meaning the bearded seal is a key animal source for Aboriginal clothing in the north.

What I love about this company is how they support artists and young people to learn and take up the craft. Learning these skills is so vital to tradition.   As well as working with your hands to produce a beautiful item can have such satisfaction and pride.

Here is a video outlining one of their boots and its features on it.

In their collection, they sell boots, moccasins, slippers, and accessories.  For this reason, their accessories include mitts, gloves, bags, hats, scarves, and socks.

If you don’t find a boot for winter time there are many other items to help keep you warm and stylish during the winter months.
